Pain is a complex and multi-leveled occurrence that happens in different variation, degrees, and lengths of time. Some medical professionals dedicate their entire careers and lives to treating and trying to understand it. One thing everyone agrees on is that pain comes from the brain. Whether it's chronic or acute pain whether it's on your ankle your knee or your back it all stems from the nervous system. It is the way our brain protect the body from damage, yet sometimes that protection system malfunctions.

It is well established and understood that physical activity is a crucial component to pain alleviation. The cortical homunculus is a representation of a human body based on a neurological map of the areas and proportions the brain dedicated to processing motor function or sensory function. The brain and nervous system are what determine our reaction to external or internal stimuli; therefore when they have an unobstructed representation of the body, it is less likely to have a malfunction that sends pain signals. If we explore our body's in a mindful and explorative way through movement practice we help create a complete Neuro map that our brains can process, that intern has been shown to alleviate pain.
